Room for all six of us and having two bathrooms was great. The kitchen was user friendly and there was plenty of space for the food we brought. The dishwasher saved time for visiting the park. Close access makes an early entry and staying in the park late for wolf watching easy. Beds were comfortable with plenty of bedding and lots of towels for morning showers. My wife did not want to leave. You can't go wrong.
Six of us stayed in the cabin and it was perfect. Plenty of room, supplies, and a great location. The managers were right across the street and very helpful. The owners are great. It was such a wonderful week. It is the perfect place for someone wanting to explore the park and all it's beauty!
We recently stayed in the Lamar Valley Cabin and were very pleased. We had young children and felt the accommodations fit us well. The bed we slept in was quite comfortable, and it was nice having an open kitchen to the living area. W/D came in handy as well as the two bathrooms. We saw a black bear and a moose from the cabin windows making us feel like we were right in the park itself. I'd definitely recommend this property.
We visit the Lamar Valley annually in May. This is our 5th stay in this cabin, and I'd reserve it 10 years out if I could! We love the cabin (fits many comfortably!), the location, and our interactions with Karen and her managers in Silver Gate. What a wonderful place to stay!
The owner was great to work with. Very quick to respond and helpful. The property was great. We went to Cooke City snowmobiling with another couple and stayed here in Silver Gate. The cabin was beautiful. The area is gorgeous and very peaceful. We saw moose several times on our ride from Silver Gate to Cooke City. Only thing that would have made the stay better is a hot tub
We enjoyed our stay at the cabin in Silver Gate. It's an extremely comfortable place to stay. The cabin was clean, was well equipped, and everything worked as the instructions said. The propane heater was a nice touch since it did get quite cold at night and the extra boost to the heat was nice and cozy. The cabin is only a mile outside the Yellowstone Northeast entrance which makes it a quick trip into the Park and especially to Lamar Valley where many animals reside. It's just a nice place to come back to after a day Yellowstone.
great cabin with such a perfect location to northeast park hiking and fishing as well as beartooth hwy and clarks fork. need laundry unlocked prior to visit as nice folks looking after cabins use it to do all needed. comfy comfy beds x 10. what a relief after first four nights in cabins with not so much comfy.
The weather was cold so we really enjoyed the warmth of the gas wood stove in the evenings. Cabin was comfortable and clean. There were plenty of towels and sheets and the kitchen was well-stocked. The only negative thing was all the steps--too many for anyone with knee problems. Recommend driving the Beartooth Highway to see marmots, pikas, mountain goats, bighorn sheep, and lots of spectacular scenery on the tundra.
Beautiful home in excellent location near the Northeast entrance of Yellowstone. Great kitchen and comfortable beds. We enjoyed returning to relax each night after a full day at the park. The owner was very helpful in providing information on the area as well as the property managers at the "Stop the Car" cafe. (Note there is no tv, radio, and limited wireless service). Suggestion to the owner would be to add a radio with docking station so there is at least some music. Definitely would recommend the property and hope to return again.
This perfectly located cabin is so close to the park entrance that you might miss it if you are not careful. Accommodations were ideal and the cabin itself was fantastic. Easy to deal with the owner and a pretty good $ value for being so close to the park entrance.
This home is very, very nice inside and very comfortable. Pretty views from the windows and the kitchen well stocked and modern. The only con for us was we like to spend the majority of our time outside. There is absolutely no where to sit outside except on the wet front steps, and no grill which was a disappointment. You couldn't sit in the yard even due to chest high grass. Bring your own chairs and plan to cook in or eat out every night, and you will be very happy! Awesome location, walk to the cafe restaurant and general store.
Owner Response
Thank you for your comments and we are seriously considering them as suggestions on how to improve visitor's experience at our cabin. I'm sorry you did not have an area for outdoor seating during your stay, or the ability to grill outdoors. Having handbuilt our cabin, we care deeply about the quality of our improvements, and we are in the planning stages is a new deck for Spring 2014. The deck will take advantage of our incredible view to Ampitheater mountain. We also plan to add a picnic table in the rear to offer a quiet spot under the big pine tree where our guests can spot the mountain goats and big horn sheep on Mineral Peak. Extreme fire hazards caution us against having a grill outdoors. Perhaps once Jeff and I have built the deck, we can offer a safe spot for a grill.
I have stayed here many times and it is truly a diamond in the rough. There is plenty of lodging in the Cooke City area but none offer the comfort and homeyness of this well appointed cabin. As far as I am concerned this really is the best spot to lodge when visiting the Yellowstone area.
Absolutely perfect!! My family and I immediately felt at home the moment we stepped in! Downstairs the living room and kitchen are super comfortable and have everthing you need. From the living room window we could see mountain goats with a spotting scope. The breakfast nook is an absolutely perfect for family meals - great views and a great comfy spot. The kitchen has everything we needed for cooking and the large windows were great! We saw a bull buffalo our first morning there and then continued to see him most days. One thing that isn't listed is that there is a washer and dryer - very helpful to use. The bedrooms are all great too! The one at the top of the stairs is so dreamy to look out the window at the mountains and stars! What a perfect place. Then of course Silver Gate and Cooke City are wonderful little towns to wander around in too. And being super close to the NE park entrance made it so handy to go into the park early in the morning and stay late into the evening.
We had a wonderful vacation stay in this lovely mountain cabin. It was well equipped and very comfortable, and the owners were very nice to deal with. There were four adults and two pre-teens in our group and we all loved the cabin. The Lamar Valley was very near and the cabin was in a very convenient location for us. Thank you so much for allowing us to stay with you. I would highly recommend it!
We stayed at the cabin for seven nights. This was our fourth trip to Yellowstone And the cabin had everything we needed. The kitchen was fully stocked, easy for making meals, just shop before you get to Silver Gate. The location is fabulous just a short drive and you are in the park. The cabin is nicely decorated and enough space for everyone. We hope to be back soon and would stay here again in a heart beat. Karen was helpful and always easy to get in touch with. Thanks for a great place to stay!
My family had been looking forward to our third visit to Yellowstone for months. On this visit we wanted a comfortable cabin as we'd be staying for a week. We found the Lamar Valley Cabin just outside the northeast entrance to the park. Convenient yet wild. On two mornings we found bison in the back yard. The house is in downtown Silvergate with a general store and two restaurants within walking distance. Mountain views from front and back. The home is well furnished, comfortable and roomy. Definately one of the nicer places to stay when visiting the park.
I've spent several nights at this cabin and truthfully I couldn't ask for more. It has a very comfortable cozy feel not found in cabins I've been to in the past. Also being located a stones throw from the Yellowstone north east gate, accessing the park is beyond convenient. This cabin is truly a wonderful place to call home when your in this beautiful part of the world..
We loved our stay here. The view from every single window was amazing (even from the bathrooms!) It was comfortable, convenient, and simply beautiful. The furnishings and amenities are perfectly suited to the place and activities. We've stayed in a lot of cabins in the mountains and this one tops the list!
"Cabin" doesn't do this justice! We were delighted at the spacious, well-maintained place to call home for four days. Quiet and very comfortable. Days in the park, wolf-watching, hiking and all of it made for a wonderful vacation with our daughter and son-in-law. We especially enjoyed the great kitchen (well-equipped) to prepare meals together and then lounging while comparing stories of the day. Beautiful views to watch the sun on the mountains. Having come to Lamar Valley for the wildlife and to get away from crowds, this is the PERFECT spot. Will definitely come again, no question about it. Very easy reservation process, no problems, great owners, thank you so much!
Thank you Karen and Jeff for renting your beautiful and comfortable cabin to us. Aside from admiring the construction, we truly enjoyed its ambiance. We were up early daily and enjoyed the sights in the Lamar Valley. We were even among the fortunate wolf watchers who witnessed a once-in-a-lifetime three and one-half hour viewing on September 15th of 5 grizzlies (including a sow and 3 cubs), 5 wolves, magpies, and ravens at the Confluence with a coyote observing from afar. We were always happy to call your cabin home at the end of the day. Thank you so much.
The large cabin was exactly what we had hoped for, and exactly what we needed. We spent several days fishing and hiking in the Northeast section of the park and the cabin was the perfect spot to come back to each evening. It had all the amenities we needed, was clean and modern, and the location can't be beat - at least for us. We hope to back again soon. Silver Gate is a quiet, tiny town. If you're looking for lots of action, this probably isn't the place for you. If you're looking for a place to relax and unwind, and to use as a base camp for visiting the Northeast part of Yellowstone, the Beartooth Highway or a visit to Cody via the Chief Joseph Scenic Highway, then this is a perfect spot. There are easy hikes right outside the door, and lots in the immediate vicinity - both in and out of the park. Excellent fishing is nearby, both in and out of the park. This is also a great spot to just chill. Waking up to Amphitheater Mountain every morning is also a great way to start a day.
Our family of 5 couldn't have picked a more majestic location. The cabin's proximity to Yellowstone and the small towns of Cooke City and Silver Gate made it perfect for my crew. We arrived by the Bear Tooth Highway, spent 5 days in Yellowstone Nat. Park and left via the Chief Joseph Highway. Spending many hours on the road, this cabin felt like home every time we returned. If you are looking to clear your mind of the stresses of daily life, this is the place! WE WILL BE BACK, JUST NOT SOON ENOUGH!!!
We used the location as a base for exploration of Yellowstone for four days. As matters turned out, the location was too far away from the "figure 8" center of Yellowstone for our taste. It is a thirty mile drive from Silvergate to the "Tower" area, the nearest entrance to the "figure 8" loop, and it proved to be a bit much to travel this distance both in and out daily for four days. The views of the mountain tops to the south and north of the cabin are great. However, in order to get the view to the south, one must look over the commercialized "Grizzly Bear Lodge" with its gaudy totem poles just across the highway from the cabin. And to the north out the rear of the cabin, the view must be made over some six or seven faux log cabins sitting all in a row for rent to tourists. Because mountains are in view from almost every spot around Yellowstone, the views are hardly major considerations for this cabin. The bedrooms lacked furniture other than a bed itself and a small dresser without mirror shoved under the low eave of the attic roof. I bumped my head repeatedly trying to get to my bags. There was little or no space to lay articles or hang things while bathing or shaving in the bathroom. I decided that this arrangement was more "rustic" than "upscale". The yard and outside area was rough and uneven. Weeds and grass were knee-high and did not appear to have been mown this year. Perhaps that is the way that outside areas are supposed to look in this area, but it did not appeal to me and was not conducive to use and enjoyment of the outside area. In summary, the cabin served our purposes, but all things considered, including the details herein mentioned, I feel that we could'a done better.
Owner Response
Thank you for your feedback Edward, it helps us understand the needs of our guests, and is most helpful for those future travelers who are considering a stay at our family cabin. We have addressed the issue of space in the bedrooms with two extra luggage racks in each room, and have installed a storage spot for things in the bathrooms. We feel strongly that our property be in keeping with the natural habitat in Yellowstone, and for that reason keep the lawn and topography natural with no mowing, seeding weeding, etc. Lamar Valley is considered the "wild side of Yellowstone" and is unspoiled, rugged, and appropriate for those guests interested in a departure from the crowds, and who are curious to experience wildlife and rugged mountain landscapes.
We selected this cabin, seeking a "base camp" for a week fly-fishing trip in the Northeast part of Yellowstone Park. The cabin is less than 1 mile from the entrance to the Park in the "small town" of Silver Gate, MT. There are a few businesses in Silver Gate (within walking distance) to cover many daily needs such as breakfast, simple grociery and personal needs, and plenty more a few miles up the road in Cooke City which has a post office, gas station and a number of restaurants. The cabin is classic in feel and function but modern in decor and ammenities. Very comfortable and well maintained. The Park itself is magnificent and full of wildlife, trails and wonders to explore.
Accommodation is good, location is excellent to visit the park especially for people willing to stay in Lamar Valley A few more items like wine glasses would be appreciated to really feel home and give a cosier atmosphere.
we live an hour away..as a crow flies...yet escaping from our farm gave us a wonderful get-a-away to enjoy our family with out the every day distractions.....thank you for the warm, comfortable home with no tv and cell service......jan and stuart and family
We spent 3 nights in August here and absolutely fell in love. The cabin is clean, cozy, brand new and well-designed, even better in person than in the photos. Comfortable for the 4 adults and 5 kids we had in our crew! Essentials are available at the general store and good eats at the Log Cabin Cafe. Not to mention that you are about a one minute drive from the entrance of Yellowstone! Highly recommended, will definitely be coming back.
Our family had a grand time at the Lamar Valley cabin. Everything about it was top notch. Excellent detail on the living areas made for an interior that was almost as pleasant as the surrounding landscape. Everywhere you look it is evident that the builder's had an eye for detail. It was built for the long haul as all the hardware is first quality. The kitchen was well laid out, and spacious, as were the bedrooms. The views from the dining nook are outstanding. What a great spot for breakfast, reading, or a family board game. This is a cabin our family would not hesitate to visit again in the future. We are looking forward to many more trips here.
We stayed at the larger of the two Lamar Valley Cabins as part of our visit to Yellowstone, and the entrance to the park is only about a mile away. Spacious, comfortable, super-clean cabin with better beds and appliances than I have to use at home, designed with nooks and crannies to get away in and large, open spaces for groups. This place is absolutely perfect!
What a great place to stay! The cabin was very big! The pictures do not do the cabin justice! It was like being at home but with a beautiful mountain view. Great place to stay for animals. We saw a moose 100 yards from the cabin as well as deer and mountain goats up in the mountains surrounding the cabin. The cabin was 5 minutes away from the NE ewntrance into the park which was great. The owners had a helpful notebook waiting for us with information about the area and things we would want to know. We would stay there again in a heartbeat!
We stayed in Silvergate for 4 nights and absolutely loved this house. Very spacious, enough privacy for 2 couples. We loved the mountain views, the wildlife (moose in the front yard), falling asleep looking at the stars. It is so close the the entrance to the park, it only take 1/2 hour to get to the heart of the Lamar Valley where we saw tons of wildlife including wolves, grizzlies, elk, bison, mountain goats, bighorn sheep, pronghorn, eagles, osprey...It was nice to be able to eat at the house and do wash at night, rather than sit in a laundromat. The house is beautifully done, very tasteful, very comfortable and clean. I almost hate to give such a good review...I want to be sure they have an opening next time we want to visit!!!
Wow, if you haven't seen this corner of Yellowstone, it is the perfect place to be! It's quiet, especially Silver Gate, and the mountains are so majestic! For us it was easily the most beautiful, least populated, and had the most wildlife of any other section of Yellowstone. I found the cabin to be extremely clean, and everything worked perfectly. So nice to come home and read in the breakfast nook (which is not pictured, but it's the sticks out from the front of the cabin surrounded by windows with AMAZING VIEWS). The beds were extemely comfortable and seemed brand new... quality linens too. I can honestly say that this house was better than pictured or described. Our vacation was a dream. Thanks Karen and Jeff for sharing your piece of paradise!
The property was delightful and added a wonderful dimension to our trip. It was nice to have a clean, well maintained cabin that matched the descriptions and photos. I would recommend this, and hope to go back next year!
We had a wonderful girlfriend's reunion at this lovely cabin! The upstairs had plenty of room for all 5 of us to sleep and the spacious downstairs was a great place to just hang out, chat and cook in the beautiful, well- appointed kitchen! The views from the cabin are just gorgeous! We had a bison visit us every morning right outside the kitchen window. It is a short walk to the Yellowstone entrance which is a nice way to start your day. We enjoyed a great meal at the Log Cabin restaurant right across the street and there are also some general stores for any snacks/supplies you might need--the people are super friendly! The owners, Karen and Jeff, thought of everything to make our stay comfortable and our very knowledgeable about the area. I would highly recommend staying at this amazing cabin!!
Our week at the cabin was fantastic! The owners thought of everything to make this place comfortable and accommodating. The views from each perfectly placed window are awe-inspiring! Don't miss breakfast or dinner at The Log Cabin Cafe across the street. We also enjoyed visiting with other Silver Gate-area guests and making s'mores at the campfire in front of the General Store two doors down. Be sure to drive the scenic Beartooth Highway and take in the wildlife in Lamar Valley. Perfect location for a family getaway!
I spent a long weekend at this brand-new cabin with friends from college. It's beautifully furnished and has all modern conveniences. More than enough space for 5 people and just look out the window for spectacular views. The Log Cabin restaurant right down the street had great food and Yellowstone is right around the corner. A wonderful back-to-nature get-a-way but with a comfortable place to sleep at night! Highly recommended. Karen is knowledgeable and very helpful.
We had a girls getaway in the cabin for 3 nights in late June and were thrilled with the beautiful cabin! It is less than a mile from Yellowstone, and there are amazing mountain views from most of the rooms. We loved the general store and cafe down the street, and were even graced by a bison in the back yard for most of our stay! The accomodations are perfect and exceeded all of our expectations - everything is luxurious and new, but also comfortable. We felt right at home. We can't wait to visit again!
We have just returned from the best vacation we have ever taken with our family. Your cabin was everthing and more. From the great views to the sound of the river to the "big" bison in the backyard eating grass each night. The town was quiet and welcoming. The northeast entrance is the best...it is less traveled by people and offers lots of wildlife. We saw more on that side of the park than any other part. This is the ideal place to spend some quality time with your kids. The cabin had everything you would need and more. Karen was prompt with answering our questions and a great resource for information on where to go in the park and area. The Log Cabin Cafe is this great (5 star) resturant that is a must to visit. The food is homemade and excellent, bring your appetite and camera. We also visited Cooke City for shopping and dinner, another great place to walk around and enjoy. Thanks Karen and family for making our vacation the best it could ever be!!!
Wonderfully appointed cabin in a very convienient location to the Lamar Valley in Yellowstone Park. Clean and well maintained and Karen is very responsive to guest needs. Highly recommended.
This cabin feels more like a home and is in a great location for easy access to Yellowstone Park. Everything in brand new and you can see almost as much wildlife in the front yard as in the park. I would love to live here but don't think the owner will give it up, so will just plan on returning as much as I can. Also the views are fantastic! And everyone was great to work with on making reservations.
